All compositions written to midi using
an old Yamaha SYXG soft synth sound card. A 'non standard'
drum sound was used to generate a nice 'flam' on the snare, however
all other sound cards interpret this note differently. Many
sound cards map it to a 'bell' or 'triangle'. This note is the
lowest A# on the bass clef of the drum track.
Midi-idiots should locate and remove
this offending note.
Others may wish to download the mp3
versions instead.

FZ#9 -
This one is for Frank. I tried to rip off every lick I could,
but he is way beyond me...(come to think of it...is
really is right now) sometimes it sounds like it could have
been an out-take from his album 'Apostrophe' or 'Over Night
Sensation'....well it could if you were really drunk.
(yeah Sam....the first riff sound like Chester's
Gorilla......but can you believe it...I got Ruth Underwood to
do the Vibe parts...)
Short piano tune
for Becky's Birthday...played on a vibraphone in this
version...the transition to the minor key is for color
only....don't read anything into it...I happen to think it
sounds like an old time music box.
Original
compositions written by Kim Shomaker, Sam Shomaker, Tim
Carey, Steve Ennis and John Mock - copyright 1999
These are raw midi
renditions of songs written long ago..., and the MP3 version
created from the midi. Although the MP3 files are bigger,
they sound much better. The actual recordings of some of
these songs are available on the MP3
page.
11
Restaurants - written sometime in the late
1980's...playing in some jam shack in Alamance County, that's
since been torn down...well you'd tear it down to, if a bunch
of loud rednecks kept coming back.
Space
Beach - Again, written sometime in the late 80's, by
the same group of knuckle heads. But this one is special, it
changes time signature all over the place. The main riff is
in (believe it or not, count it if you can) ...13/16....and
Tim Carey on drums is way better than I could ever
figure out what to write down...Sam I'm sorry but...it kinda
sounds like your bass...and Kim...whatever you just said...you
too...(if you didn't play so damn well I could figure it
out).
Sales Rep -
One more time...and yet another one written by the same
knuckle heads... Sorry for all the 'horn' parts on all this
stuff, but I've yet to find a decent 'guitar' sound on these
midi devices...the horn's give a good approximation of what
this stuff sounded like.
13 Punk P
Drive - One of the oldest tunes yet...written by the
'boys' some 25 years ago...maybe older, I think Kim and I used
to mess with it in his bedroom when we were in High School.
These songs were
transcribed into a music writing program called NoteWorthy
Composer, a relatively inexpensive program from a company in
Carey, NC. Check them out at
www.noteworthycomposer.com If you can read and write music,
and have a sound card and speakers on your computer you can stay
up all night goofing off.
After you get the
score figured out, you can export it to a Midi Format. I've been
using a Voyetra program to tweak on the midi, add a little 'verb
and chorus...mess with the volume..etc.
About the sound...If
you have a 128 voice Yamaha sound card, and a sub-woofer, these
should sound pretty good, otherwise....sorry it just won't sound
to hot. But hey....find someone that has the stuff and come back.
